Five RDF officers complete four-year military training in Qatar

Five senior officers of the Rwanda Defence Force (RDF) have successfully completed a four-year military training program in the State of Qatar, marking another milestone in the growing defense cooperation between the two countries.

The achievement reflects Rwanda’s continued investment in strengthening the skills, professionalism, and leadership capacity of its armed forces through international partnerships.

The graduation ceremony took place on January 22, 2026, and was celebrated by both Rwanda and Qatar as a testament to their strong bilateral relations in the areas of security and military training.

The officers studied at different military academies in Qatar, where they received advanced instruction in military tactics, leadership, command, and national security operations.

The ceremony was attended by Qatar’s Emir, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, alongside other senior government and military officials, underscoring the importance Qatar places on military education and international cooperation. Representing Rwanda at the event was Colonel Bernard Niyomugabo, Rwanda’s Defence Attaché at the Rwandan Embassy in Qatar.

These five officers join nine other RDF soldiers who completed similar training programs in Qatar in January 2025. Their graduation highlights Rwanda’s long-term strategy of enhancing the competence and preparedness of its military personnel through high-level training abroad.

Relations between Rwanda and Qatar have continued to yield positive results over the years, particularly in security, defense, and investment sectors. Through this partnership, Rwandan military officers have regularly benefited from advanced training opportunities in Qatar, while both countries collaborate on initiatives aimed at crime prevention and regional stability.

Overall, this cooperation reflects a shared commitment to promoting peace, security, and sustainable development, while building highly skilled defense forces capable of addressing modern security challenges.
